No School day… Tons of fun March 13 2015

I tried something a bit different this morning. The kids were all hyped up so we all sat down on the mat and for about 10 minutes we practice deep breathing. The kids said it helped, but only they know.  Then AB and JP decided to do some push ups and one legged stands. Next we sat down and made “Veggie” masks. The kids loved those, almost as much as coloring some “Frozen & Princess” pictures. They were pretty proud of those, and should be.  I worked 1×1 with CS on fine motor skills of holding a pencil/marker.  If that wasn’t enough fun, the fort building began, and finished. CS was the first to check it out. He took off through all the curves inside.  Then it was “make your own pizza” time. Who knew the kids would get so excited about this project? After lunch we headed back down to the Daycare room so that the kids could all check out the fort. They just sat inside for about the first 30 minutes. I think it got a bit cramped after that.  And there were the normal, everyday things: Barbies, peek a boo with CS, kissing the baby, Army figures and silly faces.

Another great day.  Enjoy the photos.

DIY Weighted Blanket/Fun and playing inside

TUESDAY:   I had looked up a DIY project for people that may have over stimulation concerns.  It is actually a weighted blanket/Lap pad. It is said to help increasing certain “calming”chemical levels in the brain. You can follow the process with these pictures, but the short description. Put 1.5 cups of rice into a zip lock bag (9). Duck tape the bags shut. Place in three rows (Or how ever many you would like for the size you desire). We used 9. Three rows of three. Once the rice was all secure we duct taped the bags, spaced equally apart.  We continued to duct tape until all the zip lock bags were secure. You can see the end result. You can make a cover for it, or use a pillow case.

WEDNESDAY:  We had lots of fun in the Daycare room today. We went through many items, and with the kids help and input, determined what was to be left out and what could be put away.

During play time, “C” showed off his belly. He was so sweet giving little “J” his blanket, over and over again, as well as hugs.  There was dancing, music, Barbies and lots of play with many different activities/toys. That made it very hard to decide what to put into storage.  I will let you see for yourself the happiness in everyone’s faces. I even got a special kiss from “C”.   My sweet kiddos.

Enjoy the pictures and please feel free to comment on them here or on Facebook. I welcome your Feedback.

No School/ PaJama Day/ Veteran’s Day

Today was a great day here at Lil’ Caboose.  It was a no School day, which generally means, PAJAMA DAY!!!!!

It was a nonstop, fun activity day.  There was dancing, the kids painted wonderful pictures, using their imaginations. They also played a large variety of games, such as- don’t spill the beans, cooties, hot potato, bendaroos and many more. We even had a breakfast pic nic on the mats in the Daycare room.

Since tomorrow is a day to celebrate our much appreciated Veteran’s, I read a kids version of what Veteran’s day is all about.  Then I put it into words that the kids could understand. I have a child in my care that was affected, sadly, due to a tragedy to a relative in their family, a Veteran.  This child mentioned it several times during our discussion, so we talked about it and they shared with the other children how they was affected.  After which we colored an American Flag as well as a Soldier.

Another all around great day … Enjoy the photos..

Library/Outside/Playroom

Today we did not work in “K”s workbook (not that we do every day anyway) but I decided to take her and the baby to the Baxter Memorial Library for Pre school reading and activities. Both kids had lots of fun.  The baby crawled everywhere and “K” participated in the reading, singing, body movement and craft with the other Pre School children that are brought there.  She really worked on her Social skills, which is very important at her age, as all or most of you know.  Today’s books were about Lions, so the craft was a Lion hand puppet. We also played with some toys, read some books ourselves and played with the dolls (babies).  And, today was a special treat, they had a sort of scavenger treat. You had to find the poster  1 – 12 and do what the poster said on it. For example, “Roar as loud as you can”, “Stretch on your tippie toes and stretch, but do not fall over”, “Find the Lion’s paw prints”, “Find certain books and dust them”and so on.  When we arrived back at Daycare we played outside for a bit. The fresh air was good and it really didn’t feel that cold out. When “J” and “A” arrived from school we had some more fun in the playroom. They were princesses, cooks, readers, spinners and more.  Another great day! Enjoy the pictures.

Letter “B” Beaver, Bear and lots of playing

Another great day!! JP was back with us today.   The kids have been excited to make our Bear craft since they saw me looking at it yesterday. So today became “B” day.  We did things in a different order today, we did crafts first, then watched a few short learning videos about the letter B and it’s sound and words that begin with B.  So, our first craft was actually a “B”eaver made out of construction paper and some other add on’s. Next we made the CD Bears.   Each child got a CD and I cut out some felt pieces to make the eyes and nose and paper ears. The backs of the felt was actually sticky, so all they had to do was pull the backing off and stick it in the right place on the CD. Once done I added some black marker for the eyes and mouth.  Off to the play room to play MANY different activities.  This is where they watched the letter B videos, as well as BINGO and Wheels on the Bus.  “E” built a castle.  We also has three VERY sick kids today, so each one took turns being the Doctor. We had some “Crazy dancing”. Then, three strangers stop by, see if you recognize them. We also had dress up with two princesses and a Fire Fighter.

Finger Painting/Cooking/Nursery Rhymes/Gross Motor skills

We had fun again today.  Started off with using finger paints to make a picture of anything the kids wanted.  One child said they had never used finger paint before so wasn’t sure what to do with it.  Once they got started this child caught on quick.  We went through how certain colors mixed together make other colors. The kids didn’t quite remember that finger paints were meant to get your hands all messy, so they were going easy, but that didn’t last long as you will see. I showed them that once their paper was covered in paint that they could use their fingers to make pictures, so I made their names, they loved that part.  This went on for quite awhile.  In the end the papers all pretty much had the same color painting. Next my daughter, who was home today, got out all the materials needed for the children to make brownies.  They felt so grown up cooking our afternoon snack (with little help).  While the Brownies were cooking (and beyond) we moved down to the play room and did some dancing, singing and computer games. We also did many  Nursery rhymes that required following the movements on the computer (wheels on the bus, London Bridges, Hokey Pokey etc).  We also did some gross motor skill games as well (Frog Jumper for instance).

Mini Christmas Tress and “M”s last day.

We had an extra child during the day today, “T”, didn’t go to school so he came today with his sister, “J”.  We began today by practicing numbers on the dry erase boards.  “E” & “J” did really well.  Still having a hard time with “3” &  “5” . We made Mini Christmas Trees using Pine Cones, glue, pom poms and glitter glue.  Also, today is “M”S  last day. We all made cards for him. We will miss him.  Because we couldn’t go outside we played many games including  musical chairs- several times, the slide chase and tag in the play room etc..  We  played some board games and danced around.
